Opal Rewards is Kerne's pre-TGE points program. Mint kUSD 1:1 with USDC and hold it: every wallet holding kUSD accrues Opal Fragments every hour, automatically. Fragments convert to a pro-rata share of the 5,000,000 KERNE community tranche of the fixed 50,000,000 KERNE Opal allocation (5% of total supply) at the token launch. The other 45,000,000 KERNE is the scale tranche and fragments do not divide it at all, see the conversion formula below.
The program rewards early, continuous holding: fragments accrue per hour held, and the Genesis deposit multiplier steps down each week of the window, so the earliest holders compound the largest share. Staked kUSD (skUSD) is additionally designed to earn the delta-neutral yield, a variable APY computed live (a forward model of the deployed book, not yield already paid; the separate 3x target at scale was withdrawn on 28 July 2026), while continuing to accrue fragments on the same value.
Opal Fragments are Kerne's pre-TGE reward units. They are non-transferable, non-tradeable points that accrue to your wallet every hour based on the kUSD you hold, read directly from on-chain balances on Base.
The Opal Rewards flow is a simple 3-step process: mint, hold, and lock at the snapshot.
Mint kUSD 1:1 with USDC through the PSM. kUSD redeems 1:1 for USDC through the same PSM at any time, so entering the program does not lock your capital.
Every wallet holding kUSD accrues 100 Opal Fragments per kUSD per hour, multiplied by your Genesis deposit tier. Staking kUSD into skUSD or providing kUSD/USDC liquidity keeps the same value accruing fragments, and staked kUSD is also designed to earn the delta-neutral yield (a variable APY computed live, a forward model of the deployed book rather than yield already paid; the separate 3x target at scale was withdrawn on 28 July 2026).
Your Genesis Extended fragment standing locks at the snapshot on August 19, 2026 and is permanent. It sets a share of the fixed community pool proportional to your share of eligible fragments, which excludes Kerne's own wallets, convertible to $KERNE only at a token generation event that is not scheduled or guaranteed.
The base rate is 100 Opal Fragments per kUSD per hour. Accrual runs hourly against each wallet's actual on-chain kUSD balance on Base: holding 1 kUSD for 24 hours earns 2,400 fragments before multipliers. There is no claiming step and no minimum; balances under 1 kUSD accrue fractionally.
Fragments per hour = kUSD held × 100 × Genesis MultiplierEarlier deposits earn more, mechanically
The Genesis multiplier steps down each week, and fragments accrue per hour held. Waiting forfeits both the higher cohort tier and the accrual hours, so on equal size an earlier deposit always beats a later one.
Sizes are not equal, though, and we would rather say so: hours are bounded and capital is not, so a large late deposit can still outweigh a small early one in the community tranche. That is why the 45,000,000 scale tranche is measured in dollar-hours instead, where a deposit arriving late earns proportionally fewer of them and no multiplier can make up the difference.
Your multiplier is set by when your current continuous kUSD hold started, not by how much you deposit. The earlier your cohort, the higher the multiplier on every hour of accrual through the Genesis Extended snapshot.
Fragments follow your kUSD wherever it works. Staking kUSD into skUSD or providing kUSD/USDC liquidity on Aerodrome moves your kUSD into a contract, and a separate accrual pass values those positions in kUSD-equivalent terms and credits fragments at the same 100 per kUSD per hour base rate. Providing kUSD/USDC liquidity on Aerodrome additionally earns a +25% LP boost on that leg, so a liquidity provider out-earns a passive holder of the same size. Direct holdings and positions are disjoint, so nothing is double counted.
Genesis Extended ends at a published, date-certain snapshot: August 19, 2026 at 19:59 UTC. Your fragment total as at that instant is what this window counts. Season 1 standings were banked at the July 10, 2026 snapshot and are unchanged.
Accrual for this window stops at the snapshot. No fragments are credited for any period after that instant, so the balance shown on your rewards page stops moving and your Genesis Extended standing is permanent.
Earn bonus Opal Fragments by referring others to Kerne, and give them a reason to join. When someone you refer holds kUSD, you earn a bonus equal to 10% of their base fragment accrual (before multipliers), automatically, every accrual period, and your referee earns a +20% join boost on their own base accrual for their first 30 days. Both sides win, and neither bonus reduces what the other earns.
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Referral Bonus Rate | 10% of referee base accrual |
| Referee Join Bonus | +20% of own base, first 30 days |
| Max Referrals | 10 per address |
| Chain Depth | 1 level (no MLM) |
| Registration | Gasless signature or on-chain (permanent) |
| Referrer Change | Not possible (first-referrer-wins) |
Already farming delta-neutral yield elsewhere? Bring it to Base. While your wallet also holds USDe or sUSDe on Base, every kUSD you hold earns a +50% conquest boost on its base fragment accrual, stacked on top of your Genesis multiplier. Bridge your Ethena position over, mint kUSD, and earn on both.
Quests are one-time fragment grants for completing concrete actions. Each is awarded once per wallet, automatically, the first time you qualify. Both require a real position: at least 100 kUSD.
Quest rewards are one-time fragment grants in addition to your hourly accrual, and they count toward the community tranche only. They never touch the scale tranche, which is measured in dollar-hours and carries no grants, boosts or multipliers.
Diamond Hands can no longer be completed before this snapshot. It needs 168 continuous hours, the last hourly award before the snapshot runs at 19:00 UTC on August 19, 2026, and so a qualifying position had to be open by 19:00 UTC on August 12, 2026. That has passed. A position opened now still accrues fragments every hour until the snapshot and still locks the current multiplier. Recruiter is still open, at exactly the price the row above states: three separate wallets each holding at least 100 kUSD. Nothing was changed to close Diamond Hands; the clock ran out.
Changed August 6, 2026. Each grant was 1,000,000 fragments with no minimum position, so a wallet holding one wei of kUSD could earn one. Against the eligible denominator after the August 4 insider exclusion that was worth more than most real deposits, and it was repeatable across fresh wallets at no cost. Both grants are now 250,000 and both require the minimum position above. Grants already awarded were not reduced or clawed back.
At a Token Generation Event, your Opal Fragments would convert to $KERNE based on your proportional share of the total Opal Fragments pool. The formula is simple and transparent:
No Token Generation Event has been scheduled or announced, and none is guaranteed. The 50,000,000 KERNE pool is a published policy commitment over an undivided treasury balance, not an escrowed on-chain allocation, and no contract exists today that converts fragments into KERNE. If no distribution ever happens, fragments convert to nothing. The full position is at kerne.fi/security/kerne-token-disclosure.
Community = (Your Fragments ÷ Eligible Fragments) × 5,000,000Scale = (Your Dollar-Hours ÷ Total Dollar-Hours) × 45,000,000Your $KERNE = Community + ScaleThe 50,000,000 allocation is split into two tranches. The community tranche is 5,000,000 and works exactly as before: purely proportional to your fragments, with every multiplier, bonus and quest grant counting, and no minimum of any kind. The scale tranche is 45,000,000 and is divided by qualifying dollar-hours: for each hour, the part of your kUSD-equivalent position above $100,000. No multiplier applies to it. If no position ever qualifies, the scale tranche is simply not allocated: it is never rolled back into the community tranche.
Why it was split, August 6, 2026. A pro-rata share of a fixed pool cannot exceed all of it, so once the August 4 insider exclusion cut the eligible denominator to about two million fragments the arithmetic saturated: on these published numbers, about sixty dollars deposited that day took half the allocation and a million dollars took 99.99%. The program was telling anyone who did the arithmetic that a few hundred dollars was the rational deposit. The split fixes the marginal incentive. It does not make the allocation larger, and it does not make a distribution more likely. The full rule and the arithmetic.
Because fragments accrue per hour held, early and continuous holders earn a larger share of the community tranche than a late depositor of the same size. Size is not neutral either: few hours times large capital can still beat many hours times a small balance, which is what the scale tranche prices honestly rather than leaving to a saturating pool.
Eligible Fragments are not all fragments. Since August 4, 2026, Kerne's own founder wallet and protocol bot are excluded from converting. They still accrue and still appear on the leaderboard, but they claim none of the allocation, so they are not in this denominator, and they are excluded from the scale tranche on the same terms. Today that is the difference between roughly 1% and roughly 100% of the allocation reaching outside holders. Read the exclusion rule.
A total of 50,000,000 $KERNE tokens (5% of the 1,000,000,000 total supply) are allocated to the Opal Rewards pool. This allocation is fixed and will not be diluted. Since August 6, 2026 it is divided into a 5,000,000 community tranche, shared out by fragments, and a 45,000,000 scale tranche, shared out by dollar-hours above $100,000.
Genesis Extended standings lock at the snapshot on August 19, 2026. Fragments earned by then are permanent and set your share of the community tranche at the token launch, whether or not you remain deposited afterward. See the KERNE token disclosure for how the token is backed.
